The Government has just released the retail sales figures of January 2018. The total retail sales value increased by 4.1% year-on-year to HK$44.9 billion. Despite the fact that the Chinese New Year fell in February this year, sales value still registered an increase in January 2018. The Association expects retail sales value to grow by a high single-digit or even by double-digit in February. Furthermore, with a stronger yuan and positive outlook of the Chinese economy, a majority of our member companies observed a pickup in the Mainland tourists' spending power.
Earlier in March, we hosted a spring luncheon with the media to discuss the latest retail performance and announced a series of celebration initiatives of our 35th anniversary. In particular, I highlighted the launch of our new HKRMA logo that represents the four directions of our mission: To push forward the industry's Professionalism, To present a unified voice on behalf of the industry, To dedicate to Education and Talent Development, and To connect Retailers, Customers, Community and the Government.
Entering into our 35th anniversary, HKRMA will thrive together with members in this new era of retail through our new initiatives, as well as a rich array of education and flagship programmes.
