The Hong Kong Retail
Management Association (HKRMA) was founded in 1983 by a group of visionary
retailers with a long-term mission to present a unified voice for Hong Kong's retail
industry. For the past 28 years, the Association has played a vital role in addressing
the many issues that affected retailers and in promoting our retail industry through
education and training. Today, the HKRMA is the major retail association in Hong
Kong and our membership represents more than 6,500 retail outlets and employs about
half of the total retail workforce in Hong Kong. Unique as compared to most
countries' retail associations, member organisations include various types of retail
businesses ranging from beauty products and cosmetics, catering and food, supermarkets,
department stores, convenience stores, drug stores, watch and jewellery, fashion
and accessories, furniture and home accessories, electronic and electrical appliances,
telecommunications, retail (services), and specialty stores as well as suppliers,
wholesalers and industry related service organisations. Over the years, the
Association has expanded its activities to address the many operational, managerial
and strategic issues that affect the industry. The issues varied from government
legislature and policies to industry promotion, training for the improvement of
professionalism of retail staff, study tours, service and courtesy programmes, labour,
salary review, environmental issues, security at shop level and internal security,
rental/lease issues, information technology, business ethics and code of conduct,
